Worth the Bite: A Blog Proving Gluten-Free Doesn’t Mean Missing Out
A space proving gluten-free doesn’t mean missing out.
I was diagnosed with celiac disease at 17, back when there weren’t nearly as many good gluten-free options, especially where I lived. Eating out meant lots of research, lots of questions, and honestly, a lot of settling.
I’m originally from New York, and when I moved to North Carolina in 2026, I found myself starting that research all over again. New restaurants, new cities, new menus, new places I wanted to try, but no easy way to know which ones actually understood gluten-free preparation and cross-contact.
And if you have celiac disease, you already know how this goes. One menu somehow turns into eight million tabs, a deep dive through reviews, a restaurant Instagram, maybe a DM, and sometimes a phone call before you even decide where you’re eating.
I wanted an easier way.
That’s a huge part of why I created Worth the Bite.
As I explore North Carolina and find the food that is actually good, I’m bringing you with me. Specific cities. Specific restaurants. What I ordered. What I asked. What I learned about their gluten-free protocols. What I’d order again. And whether I’d actually go back.
Instead of opening eight million tabs trying to figure out where you can safely eat, you can start here.
And I’ve eaten a lot of mediocre gluten-free food along the way.
The dry bread. The sad side salad. The restaurant with one gluten-free option that somehow still manages to be grilled chicken and vegetables.
I’m over it.
Worth the Bite is about the food you actually want to eat.
The pizza with an actual crust. The restaurant that understands cross-contact. The bakery case you can order from without feeling like you’re settling. The random grocery-store find that immediately earns a permanent spot in your pantry.
I started sharing gluten-free food because I wanted people to know what they could eat.
But now, I want to answer a different question:
What is actually worth eating?
What’s worth ordering?
What’s worth driving for?
What would I buy again?
What questions should you ask before ordering?
And most importantly, is it worth the bite?
That’s what this blog is for.
You can expect gluten-free restaurant guides, Coastal North Carolina food finds, celiac-friendly recommendations, recipes, grocery discoveries, and the places that are genuinely worth making the trip for.
I’ll share what I ordered, what I loved, what I’d skip, what I asked before eating, and what I learned about preparation and cross-contact along the way.
Because gluten-free food shouldn’t just be food you can eat.
It should be food you’re excited to eat.
Welcome to Worth the Bite.
See you at the table.
